Natural allies of biodiversity
Birds play a fundamental role in the ecosystem: they control pests, disperse seeds and maintain biological balance.
At Les Seviques, we promote their presence as an integral part of our regenerative agricultural system.
How we improve the habitat
- We plant hedges and native trees that provide shelter and food.
- We leave strips of spontaneous vegetation between crops.
- We avoid the use of pesticides, favouring insects that serve as a food source for birds.
- We install nest boxes, drinking troughs and water areas to encourage their presence throughout the year.
Birds of prey and bats: natural biological control
One of the most important steps we have taken recently has been to install bat boxes in our fields.
These flying mammals are great allies: each one can consume hundreds of insects per night, helping us to control pests in a completely natural way.
Furthermore, by avoiding the use of chemicals, we protect the surrounding flora, pollinators and soil life. All this translates into a more vibrant ecosystem and, as a result, higher quality extra virgin olive oil with fewer residues, greater purity and authentic flavour.
Advantages for our farm
-
Fewer pests: birds and bats naturally reduce harmful insects.
-
More pollinators: they contribute to the flowering of fruit trees and ground cover.
-
Greater biodiversity: the more connected the system is, the more resilient it becomes.
At Les Seviques, we believe that protecting biodiversity is not an option, but a responsibility.
Birds and bats are not visitors: they are part of the team that helps us cultivate the future.
